This position is located in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC), Operational Activities Policy Branch (OAPB). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Branch. The Branch provides substantive support to the United Nations General Assembly quadrennial comprehensive policy review of the UN system operational activities for development and to the Economic and Social Council’s coordination and guidance of the UN development system. Responsibilities

Within the limits of delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Operational Activities Policy Branch (OAPB), the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:


• Provides research and administrative assistance to staff in the work unit in all aspects of work relevant to the substantive support and organizational preparation of the meetings in the economic and social fields and related events organized by the work unit.
• Assists in the data compilation and analysis, compiles materials, and presents basic information/data that is available on websites and in the documentation available on the UN official documents system (ODS), and liaises with offices within and outside the organization.
• Maintain accurate files and records (both paper and electronic) for the work unit.
• Serves as focal point and oversees registration for meetings of ECOSOC and the General Assembly, and other related fora/meetings pertaining to operational activities for development in ECOSOC, the General Assembly, and related interagency bodies.
• Drafts routine correspondence, carries out quality control function for outgoing documents, and ensures that documents are prepared in accordance with editorial guidelines; submits draft reports for processing and liaises with Documents Control on matters related to document submission and issuance.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in administrative support and conference support is required. Experience in arranging international conferences and/or meetings is required. Experience in the arrangement and/or processes of travel requests is desirable. Experience with the work of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies is desirable.
