Role Purpose
We are looking for Hourly-Paid Teaching Assistant (Young Learners) in British Council Taipei. The role involves supporting classroom learning, assisting the Teacher, and supervising Young Learners during breaks, pick-up and drop-off. It also includes ensuring all Young Learners, parents/guardians, and visitors have identification badges while on the Teaching Centre premises and always following Safeguarding and Health & Safety guidelines. Suitable for candidates at the beginning of their careers who are eager to learn and grow professionally. The job holder should be able to work at least 16 hours (4 shifts) within a week, must available on Wednesday and Friday afternoon and work on weekends.
Role Accountabilities
- As part of our expectations for general performance, staff should arrive punctually (30 minutes before class), wear the British Council vest, and remain respectful of others during breaks by not causing disruptions.
- Vigilance is essential—reading or using phones while on duty is discouraged.
- Team members are expected to attend at least one training session per term, speak English whenever possible, ask questions when uncertain, and maintain a professional yet positive rapport with young learners (e.g., firm but not harsh communication, avoiding physical contact like picking children up).
- In terms of safeguarding, all staff must help ensure a safe environment for under-18s by checking student and adult badges, completing the pick-up register accurately, reporting concerns promptly, and ensuring children are always supervised.
- During class, staff should actively support teachers by understanding expectations, monitoring learners, and contributing to a supportive learning atmosphere.
