The Strategic Context
Vaccination remains one of the most impactful public health interventions worldwide. However, achieving universal coverage depends on the ability to collect, clean, and interpret high-quality data. UNICEF maintains a global immunization database that supports countries and partners in planning, monitoring, and evaluating immunization programmes. The consultant will strengthen this system by improving data integrity, building automated processes, and ensuring timely access to reliable datasets that inform health policy and investment decisions.
The position sits at the heart of UNICEF’s data revolution—combining statistical analysis, visualization, and technical innovation to support countries in using data to reach every child with lifesaving vaccines.
Scope and Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Statistics and Monitoring Adviser (Immunization), the consultant will focus on three main areas:
1. Data Management and Quality Assurance
- Develop automated workflows and coding frameworks to process, clean, and harmonize immunization datasets from multiple sources, including DHIS2 and survey data.
- Reconcile inconsistencies arising from administrative boundary changes and integrate geospatial data for mapping and visualization.
- Manage UNICEF’s immunization database, ensuring accuracy across modeled estimates, survey data, and administrative records.

- Support evidence-based advocacy by developing high-quality visualizations and policy materials.
3. Capacity Building and Technical Support
- Provide technical guidance to UNICEF regional and country offices, as well as ministries of health, to strengthen data collection and analysis capacity.
- Design and deliver training sessions and user-friendly tools that enhance local data systems.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should hold an advanced degree in public health, statistics, data science, or a related discipline. Essential skills include strong proficiency in R and experience with database management, data visualization tools (such as Power BI or Tableau), and ETL platforms. Knowledge of Python or Stata is an asset. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of immunization and health data systems, with the ability to work collaboratively in multicultural settings.
