About the Role
This position is a non-staff contract based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, offered for one year with a three-month probation period and potential renewal depending on funding and performance. Only candidates who are legally authorized to work in Kazakhstan are eligible to apply.
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Director of the UNESCO Almaty Office and the Finance and Administrative Officer. The role involves providing both technical and administrative support to ensure that ICT systems, office processes, and operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
The duties of the ICT and Administrative Assistant are divided between ICT support and administrative functions:
ICT Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage ICT systems, applications, and equipment, ensuring smooth day-to-day operation.
- Provide first-level technical support to staff for hardware, software, and network issues.
- Assist in implementing new IT applications and process improvements.
- Advise on ICT-related procurements, liaising with local service providers.
- Maintain the ICT inventory and organize regular audits.
- Support the office’s ICT security and data management processes.
- Collaborate with other UN agency ICT teams on shared infrastructure.
- Provide occasional ICT assistance to sub-offices or antenna locations.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Draft and prepare correspondence, memos, and simple reports.
- Handle logistical arrangements such as procurement, shipping, and inventory control.
- Assist in preparing specifications, purchase orders, and supplier coordination.
- Support daily administrative tasks and provide general office assistance as required.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of secondary education or vocational training in information technology or a related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience in ICT support or administration.
- Proficiency in office software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in English and Russian is required.
- Ability to work under pressure, with attention to detail and confidentiality.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with UN systems or similar large organizations.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning tools (such as SAP or ATLAS).
- Knowledge of the Kazakh language is an advantage.
- Certification or training in procurement processes.
Salary and Benefits
The position offers a monthly gross base salary of approximately 1,075.82 (based on the local UN salary scale). UNESCO contributes to pension and medical insurance schemes for eligible staff. Employees are entitled to 2.5 days of annual leave per completed month of service. Please note that remuneration is not tax-exempt and is subject to local tax laws.
