Role Overview
Technical Experts and Research Associates will serve as external collaborators, contracted on an annual basis and mobilized as needed for specific projects. The role involves working closely with Save the Children Indonesia’s Child-focused Evaluation and Research to Develop Actionable Solutions (CERDAS) unit. The associates will support principal investigators in conducting objective research that produces independent, robust, and reproducible findings. The position is ideal for individuals who value scientific rigor, evidence-based decision-making, and applying research to real-world contexts to benefit children and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Associates will contribute across all stages of research and evaluation projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Proposal and Protocol Development: Associates will assist in drafting research proposals, Terms of Reference (TOR), inception reports, instruments, and protocols. They will ensure all research designs meet ethical standards and secure necessary approvals from local and international Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). This step ensures research is credible, ethical, and aligns with global best practices.
- Implementation of Research Plans: The associates will conduct literature reviews, collect data through various qualitative and quantitative methods, and ensure data integrity and ethical compliance throughout the process. They will engage in surveys, interviews, focus groups, and other data-gathering techniques to ensure comprehensive and reliable insights.
- Data Analysis, Reporting, and Dissemination: Associates will be involved in analyzing and interpreting data, preparing comprehensive reports, and sharing findings with relevant stakeholders. Reports will inform policy, guide programs, and strengthen advocacy initiatives, translating research into actionable solutions for children.

Qualifications and Experience
Candidates are expected to have a Master’s degree in social sciences, public health, international development, program evaluation, research methods, or statistics. A minimum of six years of research experience is required, especially in planning, designing, and conducting both quantitative and qualitative studies. Candidates should demonstrate experience working with government agencies, civil society, NGOs, or academic institutions, particularly on child-related issues such as health, education, protection, poverty alleviation, and child rights.
Strong analytical skills are essential to distill useful findings from complex data and relate them to broader contextual factors. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required to present ideas, findings, and insights effectively. Additionally, candidates should possess project management skills, including the ability to manage relationships with external research vendors, ensuring projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.
