UNESCO is the United Nations agency dedicated to building peace through education, science, and culture. Within UNESCO, the Institute for Statistics (UIS) serves as the primary source of internationally comparable data on education, science, culture, and communication. The Learning Assessment Section of the UIS focuses on improving the quality, comparability, and use of global education data—supporting countries to measure progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

This position plays a key role in enhancing the quality and scope of education data collected worldwide. The Project Officer will help design and implement data collection methodologies, strengthen quality assurance processes, analyse data for accuracy and relevance, and coordinate global partnerships that advance learning assessments. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement methodologies for collecting and validating learning assessment data in line with international standards.
- Conduct statistical analyses and prepare data visualisations to support research and policy initiatives.
- Manage projects, contracts, and work plans to ensure timely delivery of outputs.
- Coordinate with global and regional partners to enhance data reliability and country engagement.
- Support internal coordination within the UIS, including preparing technical reports and progress summaries for management and donors.
Who Can Apply
Candidates should hold an advanced university degree in statistics, demography, economics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline. A degree in social sciences with substantial coursework in statistics may also qualify. Applicants must have at least four years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of two years at the international level.
Strong technical skills in data management and statistical analysis are essential, particularly with tools such as Stata, Python, SQL, and Excel. Experience using data visualisation software such as Tableau is an advantage. Candidates should possess excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
Fluency in English is required, while working knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable. Additional proficiency in other UNESCO official languages is an asset.

The position offers an annual starting salary of approximately USD 95,628, plus additional benefits including family allowances, 30 days of annual leave, medical insurance, and participation in the United Nations pension plan. The duty station is Montreal, Canada, a bilingual and vibrant international city.
