Plan International UK Invites Applications for Fully Funded Youth Advisory Panel 2026–2028
In today’s rapidly evolving world, meaningful youth participation is more important than ever. The Plan International UK Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) places young people at the heart of its mission — recognising that real, lasting change for girls’ rights, equality and youth justice cannot happen without young people leading, shaping and holding accountable the policies and campaigns that affect them.

What is the Youth Advisory Panel?
The Youth Advisory Panel is a dynamic group of 22 young people aged 14 to 21, based across the UK, who share a common drive to build a better world — not just for themselves, but for future generations, girls, and marginalised communities. Through YAP, Plan International UK centres youth leadership by giving young people a platform to influence strategy, campaigns and decision-making.

How does it work?
Membership in the panel offers both opportunities and responsibilities. Panel members commit to two weekend residentials each year, as well as regular calls, workshops and training sessions. They participate in fortnightly virtual meetings, receive newsletters and connect through a dedicated communication channel, supported by the Youth Team at Plan International UK.
Panel members are actively involved in the organisation’s governance through roles such as Youth Observers, who attend Board meetings to share youth-centric perspectives and influence key organisational decisions.
What do members do?
Panel members engage in a range of impactful activities:
- Campaigning: The YAP has played a leading role in the campaign “Crime Not Compliment”, which aims to make public sexual harassment a criminal offence in the UK. Members express pride in knowing their work contributes to creating safer public spaces for girls and women.
- Decision-making input: Members attend Board meetings, contribute to strategic discussions, and ensure that young people’s voices shape organisational priorities. This experience teaches them how valuable their perspectives are and builds confidence to advocate for change.
- Peer-learning and residentials: The in-person gatherings combine fun, learning, and teamwork. Members share personal experiences, celebrate diversity, and form lasting friendships through collaborative workshops and discussions.
Why join the Youth Advisory Panel?
For any young person passionate about gender equality, youth activism, international development or social justice, YAP offers a unique and empowering opportunity. Members:
- Connect with like-minded peers across the UK who share a commitment to equality.
- Gain hands-on experience in campaigning, advocacy, and leadership.
- Learn how an international charity operates and how to use their voice to influence decisions.
- Attend events, meet politicians, speak to media outlets, and participate in national conferences.
- Receive full financial support for travel, accommodation, meals and training — ensuring accessibility for everyone.
Who can apply?
Applications are open for the next panel term from January 2026 to December 2028. Eligible applicants are aged 14 to 19 and based in the UK. They should be enthusiastic about representing Plan International UK’s mission, able to commit time for meetings and activities, and comfortable communicating in English.
Applicants can submit a written statement or a short video or audio recording explaining their motivation and select one of several focus areas such as online safety, education rights, gender equality, or youth activism.

Why it matters
Many organisations view youth as beneficiaries rather than decision-makers. The Youth Advisory Panel changes that narrative by positioning young people as central agents of change. Their voices shape governance, campaigns, and advocacy efforts, ensuring that Plan International UK’s work is relevant, inclusive, and youth-driven.
For members, the experience builds essential skills in leadership, teamwork, communication and strategic thinking, empowering them for future roles in education, employment or activism.
