About the Role
This position is part of the EU-funded “TIGARA” project, officially known as the European Union Support to Trade, Industry, Growth and Rapid Market Access. The project aims to enhance Egypt’s private sector competitiveness, strengthen the national quality infrastructure, and improve value-chain readiness for exports. The expert will work closely with the Egyptian National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) and other stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive honey traceability system and a residues monitoring plan that meet EU compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for reviewing and harmonizing national decrees related to veterinary and pesticide residues in honey and beeswax to ensure alignment with EU legislation. They will provide technical recommendations for updates to these regulations, guiding NFSA and local partners through the process.
Additionally, the expert will design and implement a National Residue Monitoring Plan (RMP) for honey, detailing every step from sampling and laboratory testing to documentation and certification for export. Conducting training workshops for NFSA officials will also be an essential part of this role, ensuring local authorities are well-versed in EU reporting requirements and compliance documentation. Finally, the consultant will prepare a comprehensive end-of-assignment report summarizing the findings, recommendations, and impact of the consultancy.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold an advanced university degree in Agriculture, Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. A minimum of seven years of professional experience in developing and implementing residue monitoring plans is essential. Experience within the apiculture or honey export sector, particularly in African or developing countries, will be an added advantage. Candidates should have proven expertise in developing traceability systems for honey exports and working with governmental food-safety bodies. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required.
