Core Responsibilities of the Associate Industrial Research Expert
The vacancy is tied specifically to a project titled “Green Industrial Recovery Project for Ukraine through Technology Transfer and the Co-creation of New Businesses with Japan’s Private Industries.” The project aims to support Ukraine in rebuilding its industrial base by transferring sustainable technologies and fostering innovation partnerships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing a comprehensive research report analyzing the enablers and barriers to technology transfer.
- Developing three policy briefs that draw lessons from Japanese industrial experience and proposing actionable recommendations for Ukraine’s economic recovery.
- Establishing benchmarks and indicators to assess project impact.
- Monitoring the implementation of demonstration projects and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Coordinating with consultants, preparing technical specifications, and providing support to project oversight mechanisms.
- Potential participation in field missions and stakeholder consultations.
- Contributing to UNIDO’s broader research outputs, such as studies on industrialization’s role in job creation, decarbonization, digitalization, and inclusive growth.

Qualifications and Skills Required
Candidates must hold an advanced university degree in engineering, sciences, economics, business administration, international relations or a closely related field. Specialization in economic development, industrial policy or innovation is highly desirable.
Applicants are expected to have a minimum of three years of professional experience, preferably involving research at international level, analysis of industrial policies, familiarity with global datasets and exposure to developing countries’ contexts. Experience with firm-level data collection and technology-related analysis is considered an advantage.
Strong communication, analytical writing, policy research and project management skills are essential. Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of additional UN languages — especially Ukrainian or Japanese — is an asset.
