This global initiative aims to reimagine climate education so that every child grows up prepared, empowered, and able to shape a just and sustainable future.

What is the Fellowship?

The Fellowship targets young climate-education champions between the ages of 10 and 30, who are already making a difference in their communities through school-based clubs, community campaigns, digital storytelling, or advocacy with local governments. Up to 12 fellows will be selected to join a global cohort.

Selected initiatives may receive grant support of up to USD 20,000. The Fellowship runs part-time from February 2026 to July 2027, inviting fellows to commit around 4–5 hours per week.

This support is not limited to funding — fellows also benefit from an array of opportunities: technical mentorship, visibility, speaking engagements, collaboration with research partners, and access to a global network of youth advocates and leaders.

What Fellows Will Do

The Fellowship emphasizes real-world impact. Fellows are expected to:

  • Document and elevate their climate education “Bright Spot,” highlighting effective grassroots initiatives.
  • Engage in youth-led research and foresight, using systems thinking to understand education, climate, equity, and policy interconnections.
  • Shape policy by participating in national and global dialogues, contributing youth perspectives to decision-making.
  • Produce stories, tools, and evidence that help improve education systems and climate-learning frameworks.
  • Co-design and host strategic convenings, events, or workshops, turning ideas into collective action.

In short, the Fellowship combines creativity, advocacy, research, and community engagement, enabling young people to move beyond local projects into global influence.

Why Does it Matter?

Despite growing recognition of climate change, education systems globally often struggle to integrate climate knowledge meaningfully. For many countries, climate education remains a low priority; budgets are limited, teachers lack training, and many learning systems are not equipped to mainstream climate literacy.

This matters: without eco-literacy, young people may not have the awareness, skills, or agency to navigate a rapidly changing climate or to demand climate justice and sustainable policies. The Fellowship aims to change that, positioning youth as agents of change rather than passive victims, and recognizing their capacity for leadership, innovation, and community building.

Moreover, by funding and supporting youth-led projects, the Fellowship helps bridge the gap between grassroots action and larger policy systems, fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and just approach to climate education.
