The Role: What You’ll Do

As a Research Assistant Consultant, you will play a critical role in supporting the production of the upcoming Development in the Americas (DIA) 2027 flagship report, focused on demographic transition and development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Data collection and management – gathering, cleaning, and organizing demographic and economic datasets that form the backbone of high-quality research.
  • Analytical support – conducting background research, literature reviews, and statistical analyses to support authors and editors of the flagship report.
  • Knowledge generation – preparing tables, figures, and presentations that translate complex findings into actionable insights for policymakers, academia, and operational teams.
  • Collaboration – working with editors, external academic advisors, and chapter authors in planning workshops, drafting materials, and refining research outputs.

Who Should Apply: Skills & Qualifications

The IDB is looking for candidates with a strong analytical and research background:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, or a related field. A Master’s degree or near completion is highly preferred.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of applied research experience — ideally in a university, research center, or government agency — with strong quantitative and statistical skills.
  • Data & Tools: Comfort with data and statistical techniques is essential; experience with econometric or statistical software is a plus.
  • Languages: Fluency in English plus one other Bank official language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese).
  • Citizenship: Applicants must be citizens of one of the IDB’s 48 member countries.
