About the Position
The Associate Research Officer role is a part-time (50%) project appointment offered for an initial duration of one year, with the possibility of extension subject to funding and performance. The position is open to both internal and external candidates and is scheduled to begin in the 2025–26 cycle.
The selected candidate will work on a research project focused on statistical mechanics for active matter, complex systems, and data science, under the supervision of senior researchers from ICTP and the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA).
Key Responsibilities
The role combines research, academic engagement, and coordination responsibilities. Core duties include conducting independent and collaborative research in statistical mechanics and related fields, contributing to publications and scientific outputs, and supporting the intellectual goals of the project.
In addition to research, the Associate Research Officer will help organize seminars, workshops, and scientific meetings. The position may also involve teaching activities within Master’s or diploma programs and mentoring visiting scientists, particularly those from developing countries.
Another important aspect of the role is building and maintaining strong links with the international scientific community, ensuring active collaboration and knowledge exchange with researchers and institutions worldwide.
