The Multimedia Intern Role
The Multimedia Internship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in journalism, film, communications, digital media, marketing, or related fields. This internship typically runs for about three months starting in mid-January and offers hands-on experience within HRW’s Multimedia team.
Interns are integrated into a professional environment where creativity and advocacy intersect. Rather than observing from the sidelines, interns actively contribute to real projects that support HRW’s mission and global campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
As a Multimedia Intern, you will support the production and distribution of impactful digital content. Typical responsibilities include:
- Assisting with all stages of video and multimedia production, from concept development to final delivery
- Participating in editorial and strategy meetings with multimedia, program, and development teams
- Monitoring media coverage and identifying opportunities for impact-focused storytelling
- Helping edit videos and photos for social media platforms and digital campaigns
- Drafting scripts and captions tailored to online audiences
- Supporting production logistics, including research, scheduling, and sourcing third-party footage and music
This role provides a well-rounded introduction to how human rights organizations use multimedia to influence public opinion and amplify marginalized voices.
