Key Responsibilities and Duties

The selected candidate will support the Division’s research and policy work by identifying, collecting, and monitoring substantive data relevant to social and economic development. Responsibilities include reviewing and summarizing documents, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, and preparing background materials for reports, studies, policy briefs, and assessments.

The Research Assistant will compile and validate statistical information, design and maintain country profiles, and prepare tables, charts, datasets, and presentations to support in-depth analysis. Additional tasks include updating internal databases, managing electronic and paper files, and supporting knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Collaboration, Meetings, and Knowledge Management

This role involves close collaboration with other UN departments, agencies, and external research institutions. The Research Assistant will help coordinate data collection efforts, support the organization of conferences and meetings, and prepare documentation for these events. Duties also include attending meetings, taking notes, drafting summary reports, and assisting with publications in multiple languages.

The position also requires supporting junior staff through guidance and training and assisting with digital content, including web pages, brochures, and data visualizations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, clearly stated in their UN Applicant Profile. A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in social or economic development research is required, or five years for candidates holding a university degree or higher. Experience in data analytics is considered desirable.

Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory, with professional proficiency required in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
