What This Internship Is All About

This six‑month, full‑time internship places you at the heart of UNICEF’s community health and behaviour change initiatives in Lao PDR. Hosted in Vientiane, the capital city, the internship is office‑based and offers an immersive experience in supporting UNICEF’s efforts to influence health behaviours and social norms, especially among ethnic minority groups.

Social and Behaviour Change is an approach used by UNICEF to help communities adopt healthy practices — from routine immunization and adolescent wellbeing to positive parenting and child marriage prevention. This role offers you a chance to be part of that impact, working closely with technical experts and government partners to ensure communication strategies truly resonate with diverse communities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of the SBC team, your work will span communication, community outreach, and programme coordination:

  • Communication content creation: You’ll help draft Lao-language communication materials — brochures, articles, community messages — designed to promote vaccine confidence, positive parenting, healthy behaviours, and adolescent development in ways that respect local cultures.
  • Content consolidation and storytelling: Collecting stories, key programme information, and visuals from across UNICEF sections will help create compelling content that highlights what works in community health and social norms change.
  • Event support and logistics: You’ll assist in planning outreach activities and preparing materials for community events, including those focused on routine immunization, reaching zero-dose children, adolescent health, and social norms.
