Position Overview
The Programme Assistant SC5 plays a vital role in supporting WFP’s operational and programme activities at the field level. Working under the supervision of the Programme Associate or Field Coordinator, the incumbent will assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WFP programmes in the Nuwara Eliya district. The position requires close collaboration with government institutions, non-governmental organizations, cooperating partners, and local communities.
This role is particularly important in ensuring that WFP interventions are delivered efficiently, transparently, and in line with organizational standards and humanitarian principles.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of operational and coordination tasks, including:
- Supporting the day-to-day implementation of WFP programmes at the field level, ensuring activities are delivered according to approved plans
- Coordinating with local government authorities, partner organizations, and community representatives to facilitate smooth programme execution
- Monitoring food and cash-based assistance activities, identifying challenges, and proposing timely solutions
- Collecting, compiling, and verifying programme data, including beneficiary information, monitoring results, and performance indicators
- Preparing regular field reports, updates, and summaries to support evidence-based decision-making
- Assisting with needs assessments, post-distribution monitoring, and field visits
- Providing guidance and support to cooperating partners on WFP procedures, reporting standards, and compliance requirements
- Supporting emergency preparedness and response activities when required
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of secondary education, with a post-secondary certificate in a relevant field
- A university degree in social sciences, development studies, project management, or a related discipline is considered an asset
- A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in programme support, field operations, monitoring, or community-based development work
- Experience working with humanitarian or development organizations is highly desirable
- Strong skills in data collection, reporting, coordination, and stakeholder engagement
Language and Skills
- Fluency in English is required
- Working knowledge of Sinhala or Tamil is essential for effective communication with local stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in field settings
- Proficiency in standard office software and reporting tools

Contract Details
