Key Responsibilities

  • Macroeconomic analysis and policy recommendations: Analyze fiscal policy, monetary conditions, exchange rates, and structural challenges, providing guidance from a development perspective.
  • Country monitoring and advising: Contribute to macroeconomic assessments for member countries and participate in policy discussions with government authorities.
  • High-impact research: Lead and contribute to publications for academic journals and institutional reports, including flagship studies that shape policy debates.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build relationships with central banks, ministries of finance, international organizations, and university research centers throughout the region.
  • Capacity building: Mentor junior economists and help deliver workshops or technical support to strengthen economic capacities in member countries.

Who Can Apply

This position is designed for experienced economists. Candidates for the Principal Economist level should have at least 7 years of relevant experience, while Lead Economist candidates should have at least 6 years. The professional background should include published research, experience in policy dialogue, and preferably work in international organizations, central banks, ministries, or academia.

Language proficiency is also essential. Candidates must be fluent in English and at least one other official Bank language — Spanish, Portuguese, or French — to effectively communicate across the region.
