Communication:
The communications team is seeking two interns starting on 1
who will support the promotion and dissemination of SIPRI’s research, publications, and events. Key responsibilities include assisting with daily media inquiries, social media and film efforts for the 2026 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development and providing support for the annual launches of SIPRI’s databases.
The interns will cooperate closely with the SIPRI communications team, in particular the colleagues within media and social media, as well as with external partners.

Director’s Office:
One intern will support the daily work of the Director’s Office.The Director’s Office supports the Director and Deputy Director in their strategic and day-to-day activities. The Office is also responsible for supporting the Governing Board and organizing its meetings. Key responsibilities of the intern will include contributing to internal planning and coordination; assisting with high-level engagements; preparing meetings, events and delegation visits; drafting talking points, notes and speeches; and supporting the Director and Deputy Director as needed.
The intern will be part of a small, fast-paced team and will have the opportunity to develop their skills in communication, administration and policy support.
Stockholm Forum:
Two interns will support the preparation and delivery of the annual Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development, due to be held in Stockholm on 3 and 4 November 2026. The internships will start mid-July/early August.
The Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development is a dialogue-driven conference occurring annually. It aims to be a neutral platform for exchange among communities in the development, humanitarian, peacebuilding, and security spheres to, together, build the knowledge and practice required to enhance collective action for peace. The Forum gathers international policy makers, researchers, practitioners, local activists, and other experts.
The successful candidates will get the chance to be involved in all functions related to the preparation and delivery of the Forum.
Main tasks
The interns will get experience of tasks related to communication, administration, partnership coordination and logistics of the SIPRI’s operations.
The internships will involve a wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
- Assisting with general administrative, operational and logistical support.
- Supporting the management of information, keeping processes organised, including with the use of online tools and social media platforms.
- Communicating with internal and external collaborators and partners, in-person and virtually.
- Actively attending meetings as a member of the SIPRI team, note-taking.
- On-site practical support to the team and to participants during events.
- Assisting with organising travel logistics and connected tasks.
Planning, producing, drafting and editing content for SIPRI’s social media channels (for communications intern).
Qualifications and personal attributes
To benefit the most from this internship, the successful candidates would ideally:
- Applicants must be part of a university internship scheme (or connected to an organisation), have insurance through that university/organisation, and have a contact person (e.g., an educational facilitator).
- Currently be studying or have recently finished studying, preferably in an area relevant to management, events, international relations, political sciences, development studies, communication.
- Have a strong interest in the work of SIPRI and in international processes related to conflict and peace dynamics, as well as development work.
- Have previous experience of coordination work in international contexts, processing information, organising events, interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Have fluency in written and spoken English (proficiency in Swedish is considered an asset).
- Have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, a collaborative mindset and above all interest and openness to learning.
- Be proficient in using software including the Microsoft Office Suit, Adobe Creative Suite, and the professional handling of social media platforms.

Throughout the duration of the internship, you will have the opportunity to learn and experience a range of tasks. Those tasks will vary depending on the team which you will be working with and can be but are not limited to following:
- Gaining hand-on experience in supporting planning and management.
- Learn about tasks related to operations, administration, partnership coordination and logistics.
- Gaining hands-on experience in supporting a major conference on peace and development.
- Building professional expertise in multimedia content production, visual communications and designing social media materials aligned with SIPRI’s visual identity.
- Experience team collaboration in a professional multicultural setting.
- Exposure to diverse partners and stakeholders.
Internship details
- The internship is full-time.
- The internship is not remunerated and housing, travel or any other expenses cannot be reimbursed.
- The intern will be based at the SIPRI office, in Stockholm, with possibility to occasionally work remotely.
- The intern will be closely followed and mentored by an assigned supervisor. Learning goals will be reflected in the assignment of tasks wherever possible
