  1. Conduct media relations:
  • Proactively pitch stories about key public health issues and the Organization’s work.
  • Arrange interviews and respond to media requests accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor WHO’s exposure in traditional and social media and produce a daily media monitoring report.
  • Maintain and update the regional media list and profiles of key reporters.
  1. Support communication and advocacy:
  • Assist in planning and staging news conferences, campaigns, and advocacy events.
  • Draft, coordinate clearance, and support the dissemination of communication and advocacy materials.
  • Update the WHO Cameroon website and social media accounts when needed.
  • Coordinate internal communications in WHO Cameroon, including drafting stories and maintaining the Intranet and internal social media.
  1. Provide support to country office and resource mobilization efforts:
  • Assist in planning and developing relevant information and communications products.
  • Enhance WHO visibility through strategic corporate communications campaigns.
  • Package and disseminate key contributions of the country office for resource mobilization.
  • Provide technical support for crisis management and capacity building on strategic communications.
  1. Development of IEC materials and website oversight:
  • Develop information, education, and communication materials.
  • Produce visibility materials such as brochures, calendars, banners, posters, etc.
  • Oversee the design and editorial content of the WHO Cameroon website, ensuring regular updates.
  1. Drafting press releases and speeches:
  • Draft press releases, speeches, and talking points for the WHO Representative.

  1. Liaison with media and internal communication:
  • Proactively identify opportunities and liaise with national and international media.
  • Plan and organize regular and ad-hoc briefings and press conferences.
  • Monitor international and regional media and update WHO staff on relevant coverage.
  • Facilitate effective internal communication and staff engagement.

Education and Experience:

  • Essential: A first university degree in communication, journalism, political science, international relations, or a related field.
  • Desirable: Formal qualification in public health and courses in communication techniques and social media.
  • Essential: At least two years of related experience in communication and/or advocacy, including experience in humanitarian emergencies or health outbreak response and recovery activities. Experience in writing advocacy documents and producing communication materials.
  • Desirable: Experience with WHO/UN or international non-governmental organizations, organizing advocacy campaigns, and managing publishing processes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven skills in developing and implementing communication and media products.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to advocate consensus.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to think innovatively in communication.
  • Knowledge or understanding of WHO mandate and goals.

Language Skills:

  • Essential: Intermediate knowledge of English and expert knowledge of French.

The remuneration includes an annual base salary starting at XAF 25,148,000 (subject to deductions) and 30 days of annual leave.
