About the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at The University of Edinburgh provides full scholarships to support bright, young African students with a deep, personal commitment to changing the world around them. In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the University of Edinburgh will provide 200 full postgraduate and undergraduate scholarships to students from Africa.
The scholarships for 2023 will be awarded to students with great academic and leadership potential but limited educational opportunities. On top of the scholarship, the Scholars Program facilitates transformative leadership programming to inspire and support Scholars in making change in their communities and countries on their return home.
Benefits of the Mastercard Scholarship
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program covers the cost of travel and visas, accommodation, meals, allowance for a laptop, health cover, and a living stipend – as well as tuition costs. It also provides an allowance for dependant children who may accompany a Scholar. This makes it easily one of the best international scholarships you can find. The scholarship also provides scholars with support for travel to and from the UK (including visas, if needed).

Notice that according to Mastercard, the 2023 scholarships are specifically targeted at combating the climate change scourge. Therefore, prospective Mastercard Foundation Scholars can apply to the majority of courses since addressing the climate crisis requires a range of expertise across both scientific/STEM disciplines and the arts, humanities and social sciences.
However, the Program trains these scholars in a range of academic disciplines – from the creative arts and writing, through the social sciences, to more scientific and technical disciplines: because a multidisciplinary approach to climate action and response is critical.
