Job Overview: The IRC’s Resettlement, Asylum, & Integration (RAI) department works to create opportunities for refugees and other vulnerable migrants to survive and thrive in the U.S. and Europe through a diverse portfolio of programs aimed at five core outcomes: Health, Safety, Economic Wellbeing, Education and Power. The Learning and Instructional Design Intern will be part of the Research, Analysis and Learning (RAL) Learning and Instructional Design (LID) team and will play a supportive role in delivering learning and training opportunities to build capacity of RAI staff to raise program quality. 

Major Responsibilities: The Learning and Instructional Design (LID) Intern will support the team in developing educational materials and facilitating virtual training initiatives to enhance the skills of staff. Responsibilities may include assisting team members in the creation of learning materials such as videos, presentations, and e-learning content; supporting virtual training sessions; helping prepare communication materials; and contributing to training feedback surveys under the guidance of the team. The intern may also assist the LID team in updating resource libraries, managing content in Learning Management Systems, supporting research and desk reviews, and contributing innovative ideas based on emerging technologies and LID theories to enhance training programs.

Internship Requirements:

Education

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Educational Technology, or in a related field.
  • Enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Instructional Design, Education, Humanitarian or Peace Studies, or a related field a plus. 

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in the human services field is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, build relationships, and network.
  • Very strong written communications skills, including the ability to effectively distill and present complex information in a concise, and accessible way.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and time effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
  • Experience with design and video production tools such as Canva or Vyond preferred.
  • Familiarity with e-learning development tools and technologies is a plus.
  • Experience in research and course assessments is a plus.
  • Must have access to a personal computer for the duration of the internship.

Note: This is an unpaid internship with potential for academic credit with select academic institutions. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available. 

Working Environment: 

  • Position will be home-based/remote.
