#1- Young Professional Programme

The UN Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is a recruitment initiative for talented, highly qualified professionals to start a career as an international civil servants with the UN Secretariat.

It consists of an entrance examination process and professional development once those successfully start their career with the UN. The YPP examination is held once a year in different subject areas, depending on the needs of the UN. YPP is open to nationals of participating countries. The list of participating countries varies from year to year.

The application period typically opens in June each year.

#2- UN General Service Staff (G-1)

The General Service Staff (G1-G7) in the United Nations (UN) system represents a range of non-professional support staff positions within UN agencies, programs, and funds. These positions generally involve administrative, clerical, technical, and logistical support roles that are essential for the smooth functioning of the organization.

The G1-G7 grades indicate the level of responsibility, qualifications, and experience required for each position. Here is a general description of the roles and responsibilities associated with each grade:

  1. G1: Entry-level support staff, typically responsible for routine office tasks such as filing, photocopying, or data entry. No prior experience may be required, and only basic education might be necessary.
  2. G2: Slightly more experienced support staff, responsible for basic office and administrative tasks, with some experience and/or specialized training in office procedures, software, or equipment.
  3. G3: Intermediate support staff, performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks, such as managing schedules, organizing meetings, and handling correspondence. May require a higher level of education and several years of relevant experience.

Task description

The UN Volunteer position is in the Resources and Markets Branch of the Industry and Economy Division (IED) at UNEP HQ in Nairobi, Kenya. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals, and the Chief of the Resources and Markets Branch. Specifically, the International UNV will undertake the following tasks:

• Lead consultation process with stakeholders, including businesses, governments, and other stakeholders and regional and global platforms on the circular economy, and coordinate public reviews of documents

• Support the organization of meetings, webinars, conferences, workshops on the issues of circular economy and its application in different industrial sectors

• Critically analyse value chains to assess their impacts, and identify hotspots for reduc-ing resource consumption and waste

#4- Job Position: INTERN – ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, I (Temporary Job Opening)

#5- Team Leader (North Canada, Residential School Project)

The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is launching a program to assess the needs of Indigenous families in Canada affected by the Residential School system and possibilities for investigating the whereabouts and circumstances of disappearances of their children within that system.

This Opportunity

ICMP is looking for three Team Leaders and three Team Lead Assistants working within three regions of Canada (West, North and Central) to conduct between 10 to 13 Community Engagement sessions in each region.

The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC)/Non-Governmental Organizations Branch (NGO) internship is for a minimum of four months, with an opportunity for an extension up to maximum of six (6) months, depending on the needs of the Division.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
(c) subject to review on a case-by-case basis, applicants within a few years from graduation who could not apply earlier and who are in an early stage of their careers; as a first-time entry into the workforce; are changing careers or due to compelling family circumstances.
