The cheese maker’s year starts with her tending to newborn livestock during lambing, calving and kidding time. Sheep lactate for 6 to 7 months and cows and goats lactate for 10 months on average; it’s a cheese maker’s responsibility to milk them during this time.
The cheese makers then convert the milk into cheese. A cheese maker’s day may starts early and doesn’t end until late into the evening, when she cleans her premises and equipment and prepares them for the next day.
Cheese makers may sell their products at a market on certain days. They drive the cheeses to the marketplace in the morning and set up a stall, from which they sell the produce.
