Only Citizens of the EU/EEA can live and work in Austria without acquiring a work permit for up to 90 days. After this, they must apply for a certificate of registration in order to continue their stay.

1) Austria Red-White-Red Card

The Most common type of work visa for Austria is the Red-White-Red Card. The Austria Red-White-Red Card is a work permit as well as a residence permit for highly qualified workers from non-European countries who want to live and work in Austria.

It is valid for 24 months and can be renewed for up to 6 years. To be eligible for the red card, one must need to be highly qualified and get at least 70 points.

The Read-White-Red-Card is available for:

  • Very highly qualified workers.
    • Points needed: 70
  • Skilled workers in shortage occupations.
    • Points needed: 55
  • Other key workers.
    • Points needed: 55
  • Job Seekers
    • Points needed: 70
  • Graduates of universities and colleges of higher education in Austria.

You may apply for a Red-White-Red card with competent Austrian representation in your home country or your country of residence, provided that you have received an employment offer.

2) Austria Work Visa Without Job Offer (Job Seeker Visa for Austria)

The Red-White-Red Card is also available for the Job seeker Visa. The Job Seeker Visa of Austria allows individuals from non-European countries to come to Austria to find an employment opportunity for themselves in 6 Months.

You have to apply for the Job Seeker Visa (category D visa) personally at the competent Austrian representation (embassy, consulate, or VFS) in your home country or your country of residence.

3) EU Blue Card

You can apply for the EU Blue card for Austria if you have completed your previous education with a minimum duration of three years, have proof of at least three years of relevant professional experience, have received a job offer from Austria with a salary of at least (€45,595; annual salary plus special payments).

For EU Blue Card applicants there is no points system.

Stay Duration

The Austria Red-White-Red Card Visa will be issued for 24 months.

The Job Seeker Visa will allow you to stay for six months. If you are able to find a job then you can apply for the Red-White-Red Card permit that will be issued for 24 months.

Skill Shortage in Austria

Work visa Austria Requirements

  • You must have a Job offer from the Austria employer if applying for the Austria Red White Red Card.
  • For the Job seeker visa, you do not need a Job offer.
  • You must pass the points-based system. Check your profile, documents, age, and work experience and match them with the required points.
  • Apply for the Visa, fill out the application form, and submit all the documents to VFS Global or the Embassy of Austria.

Austria Work Visa Processing Time

The processing time depends on the location and country from where you are applying. On average it can take up to 8 weeks.

  • Red-White-Red Card: 8 weeks
  • Job Seeker Visa: 6 weeks
  • EU Blue Card: 6 weeks
