Program Overview

Hoist operators are responsible for operating industrial equipment that lifts and moves materials. They commonly operate hoists to lift heavy objects onto trucks or into storage, but they may also use cranes to move large pieces of equipment or other items around a construction site or manufacturing facility.

Hoist operators must be able to follow detailed instructions while working quickly and efficiently. They must also have excellent problem-solving skills in case something goes wrong with the equipment they’re operating.

Hoist Operator Job Duties

Hoist operators have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

• Making sure that all safety requirements are followed during each lift
• Coordinating with other workers to prepare the site for a lift, including marking reference points on the floor
• Inspecting the rigging and lifting equipment before each lift to ensure that it is in good working order
• Inspecting the load to be lifted for defects or irregularities that may pose a danger to personnel
• Operating the hoist machinery to lift materials such as steel beams, pipes, or machinery components
• Positioning the load vertically using hoist controls and maintaining proper load alignment during lifting
• Monitoring load weight, height, angle, and position during lifting operations to ensure safety
• Communicating with other workers on site to coordinate lifting operations and resolve any issues that arise during lifting operations
• Operating load cells to measure load weight during lifting operations

Job Description
We are looking for a qualified HOIST Operator with valid certification. The successful candidate can operate an electrically powered hoist in a construction shaft; perform routine manual tasks operating an electrically powered hoist, lowering raise people, equipment, and materials utilized in the construction of buildings.

Requirements:

• Must have valid Hoist Operator Certification
• Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in operating hoists.
• Previous construction and hoist experience.
• Ability to understand and execute oral instructions.
• Ability to detect mechanical and operational defects in hoist equipment.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to develop skill in the operation of the equipment involved in the work.
• Physical strength and agility sufficient to lift up to 40 lbs
