Program Overview

The United Nations Technology Bank for the Least Developed Countries has announced a total of fifty (50) fully-funded international scholarships for applicants from economically challenged countries.

Eligible students from the 46 least developed countries (LDCs) who hold Bachelor’s degrees are the target group for this great opportunity.

The selected students will be granted scholarships for the International Design Education (IDE) Program 2023.

Students who successfully complete the Program will be conferred with a Master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering from Zhejiang University.

The IDE Program is a cooperation program of the UN Technology Bank, the World Eco-Design Conference, and Zhejiang University, Ningbo, and was launched in 2021.

In offering a 2.5-year-long postgraduate program to 50 eligible students each year, ZJUNB provides an opportunity for Least Developed Countries students with interdisciplinary backgrounds to specialize in industrial design while also nurturing problem solvers and entrepreneurs.

The Least Developed Countries students will study industrial design engineering at ZJUNB and promote innovation and knowledge transfer to their home countries.

The program will support South-South cooperation to enhance science, technology, and innovation in the least Developed Countries and add to the capacity to innovate, solve problems, boost national economic growth and achieve sustainable development.

The IDE Program is open to students of the world’s 46 Least Developed Countries to undertake a 2.5-year master’s program in industrial design engineering. 50 accepted students will be awarded full scholarships.

Who is eligible to apply for IDE Program?

Bachelor/master’s degree holders and final-year students of all majors from the 46 least-developed countries (LDCs) are eligible to apply. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

What does the full scholarship cover?

Full scholarship covers admission fee, tuition fee, on-campus accommodation (excluding utilities), comprehensive medical insurance, and stipends (RMB1,700 yuan/month, applicable to on-campus students only and subject to periodic evaluation based on comprehensive performance).

What language will the program be taught, at what location, what study period, and what degree will be conferred?

The program will be taught in English and implemented at Ningbo Innovation Center, Zhejiang University.

The Program takes 2.5 academic years to complete. A master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering from ZJU will be conferred upon completion.

What is the minimum English requirement to apply for the IDE program?

Applicants who (1) are native English speakers* (2) can provide a certificate issued by the university that prior education solely conducted in English is exempted from English exam requirements.

For other applicants, an IELTS/TOFEL/Duolingo test result with a minimum of 6.5/90/120 is mandatory. The result should be obtained within recent two years.

Do I have to pay the admission fee?

No. Admission fee is exempted for the IDE Program applicants.

Do I have to give up my job if I am admitted? You will be admitted to the Program as a full-time student, and the University has strict rules on attendance.

Will ZJU provide assistance with visa applications for international students?

ZJU will send standard visa application forms to admitted students to fill out for their submission while the Chinese immigration policy permits.
