The 2022 Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP)- Apply

The Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP) was conceptualised by Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu as an intervention programme aimed at creating jobs, alleviating poverty and ensuring food security through training and empowerment of women and youths in modern agricultural practices as Agripreneurs.

This is in line with the roles of the Ministry of Agriculture in the T.H.E.M.E.S. developmental agenda of the State Government which include Capacity Building, Wealth & Employment Generation, and Ensuring Food Security, among others Agripreneurship.

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for placement into a One-Month Training in

• Poultry,
• Piggery,
• Aquaculture,
• Vegetable Value Chain and
• Agribusiness.

Project Brief Agripreneurship

The quest to rapidly create more jobs for the ever-increasing youth population led to the transformation of the Agric-YES to the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP) in the year 2019. The LAP aims to train 15,000 women and youth in agricultural value chains, using the Ministry’s training facilities across the State.  The LAP was flagged-off in February 2020 with the training of 200 women and youth for a period of one month.

Project Objectives

* To efficiently reduce unemployment, create jobs and alleviate poverty in the State 

* To increase food production and contribute substantially to local food demand within the State.                                           

* To facilitate the attainment of food security in Lagos State.

* To improve the well-being of citizens of Lagos State

EXPECTED IMPACT

*Creation of 2000 Agripreneurs  ( Job creators)/annum

* Increased productivity

*Promotion of food security, Improved Nutrition, and general well-being of Lagosians

*Creation of at least 1,200 indirect jobs through the engagement of support staff such as Attendants, Artisans among others annually

* Enhancement of the economic activities of the surrounding communities and increased GDP and IGR for the State.

At the completion of training, participants will also undergo a minimum of 3 months of internship and mentoring phase in their chosen value chains.

Thereafter, successful participants will be linked to sources of finance to start up their agribusinesses.

Requirements:

To be considered for the training, you must have:

• Passion for agriculture
• Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate
• Satisfactory physical/health condition
• Age ranges between 18-35 years for men and 18-55 years for women

Duration and Reward

• The Lagos Agripreneurship Programme is specifically tailored for men between the ages of 18 and 35 years and women between the ages of 18 and 55 years.
• Interested and eligible candidates must have a minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate and must have a passion for agriculture.
• Agripreneurs. Candidates are to obtain application forms free of charge at the Agricultural Training Institute, Araga, Epe; Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority, Oko Oba, Agege; Lagos Agricultural Inputs Supply Authority, Odogunyan, Ikorodu; Coconut House, Mowo, Badagry and Ministry of Agriculture Area Office, Ajah, Eti Osa between Tuesday, 24th November and Tuesday, 8th December.
• Candidates are expected to collect and submit application forms between November 24 and December 8, 2020.
• Interested participants are expected to sit for a written examination on Monday and Tuesday, 14th and 15th of December, 2020, while oral interviews would take place on Friday and Saturday, 18th and 19th December, 2020.
• Shortlisted successful candidates would start the formal training at the Agricultural Training Institute, Araga, Epe, on Tuesday, 5th of January, 2021.
