Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordination:
  • Enhance coordination between humanitarian and development actors, promoting effective emergency preparedness and accountability within the humanitarian system.
  • Monitor and analyze the evolving humanitarian situation and operational challenges in El Salvador.
  • Organize and participate in workgroups, meetings, conferences, and consultations with agencies and partners on humanitarian and emergency relief matters.
  • Support and facilitate OCHA-led humanitarian coordination meetings in El Salvador.
  • Ensure coordination forums have predictable schedules, effective agendas, and thorough follow-up using an action point tracker.
  • Foster partnerships with humanitarian agencies to plan and monitor complex assistance programs, incorporating gender and accountability considerations.
  • Facilitate analysis and planning processes to address humanitarian needs and implement the Humanitarian Program Cycle.
  1. Information Management:
  • Improve tools for comprehensive information and analysis on the humanitarian situation, needs, and response.
  • Contribute to the development of information products based on harmonized and analytical figures.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with humanitarian partners and government counterparts.
  • Produce information products on the humanitarian situation, needs, gaps, early warning, and response.
  • Support the database of information on activities and the mapping of partner presence.
  • Assist in establishing monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
  • Manage and maintain work files on shared drives.
  1. Advocacy:
  • Mobilize international attention and action through strategic advocacy for access to affected populations and protection of displaced people.
  • Prepare updates, overviews, and context analyses on the humanitarian situation.
  • Support advocacy efforts based on humanitarian situation analysis.
  • Liaise with humanitarian organizations, donors, and government counterparts.
  • Provide information and advice on various humanitarian issues.
  • Contribute to the preparation of written reports, briefing notes, advocacy messages, and presentations.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Economics or Management, Humanitarian Law, or Development.
  • Up to two (2) years of professional working experience in project management, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Good knowledge of El Salvador’s institutional environment and familiarity with coordination structures among humanitarian actors.
  • Analytical, oral communication, and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (both oral and written) required, knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
