Program Overview
Rehabilitation assistants help people with disabilities or injuries to regain independence and live productive lives. They may work with individuals who have physical, cognitive, emotional, or developmental disabilities. Their duties may include assisting clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, etc., helping them practice skills like walking or talking, and providing other general support.

Rehabilitation Assistant Job Duties
Rehabilitation assistants have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- Assist with occupational therapy activities such as helping patients learn new skills such as cooking or using a computer
- Coordinate with other medical staff to ensure that each patient receives appropriate care in a timely manner
- Help patients practice activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and grooming
- Prepare materials such as books, magazines, television programs, and movies to aid in patient recovery from illness or injury
- Arrange for the transport of patients to physical therapy sessions or other appointments as needed
- Provide personal care services such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding patients who are unable to perform these tasks themselves
- Observe patients’ behaviors and report any unusual activity to nursing staff for further examination
- Assist patients with their physical therapy exercises or treatments as directed by the physical therapist or occupational therapist
- Help patients with their daily activities by assisting them with bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, etc.
