Program Overview

Physiotherapy Aide known as P.T. aides, physical therapy aides provide physical therapists and physical therapy assistants with non-medical support. They prepare treatment equipment and rooms, assist patients with limited mobility to reach treatment areas, and perform administrative duties. They may be employed at hospitals, clinics, or care facilities.

Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care is looking for a resourceful physical therapy aide to support our physical therapists. In this role, you will be assisting with patient intake, preparing equipment and treatment areas, and moving mobility-challenged patients to designated locations within our facility.

To ensure success, physical therapy aides should exhibit a solid grasp on the daily operations of a physical therapy facility and the ability to work under the supervision of physical therapists. An outstanding physical therapy aide will be someone whose organizational skills and attentive insight contribute to exceptional patient care.

Physical Therapy Aide Responsibilities:

  • Performing patient intake tasks.
  • Preparing equipment and treatment rooms.
  • Liaising between patients, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and other departments.
  • Assisting patients to walk, sit, and stand, as well as transporting them via wheelchair to locations within the facility.
  • Observing patients performing prescribed physical exercises and immediately reporting concerns.
  • Documenting patients’ responses to treatment and updating patient files.
  • Performing basic prescribed treatments such as applying ice packs or heat pads as instructed.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and therapy areas, as well as changing linen.
  • Performing administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments.

Physical Therapy Aide Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment will be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in office software, such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook Express.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Superb interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities.
  • Keen attention to detail and a caring nature.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require physical strength.

Position: Physiotherapy Aide – Full-time Permanent

Responsible To: Program and Services Manager and Physiotherapist

Position Summary: A Physiotherapy Aide plays a vital role in the physical rehabilitation of residents with injury or disability. Working under the license of a Physical Therapist, the Aide works to maximize the residents’ ability to manage daily activities. With the treatment plans, they help the resident with strength training, stretching and other activities and exercises to help improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion.

Education and/or Experience:

Ø High school diploma or GED.

Ø Previous experience in a healthcare environment or long-term care setting will be advantageous.

Ø Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with Physical Therapy assessment and intervention will be advantageous.

Ø Proficiency in office software, such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook Express.

Ø Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Ø Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities.

Ø Keen attention to detail and a caring nature.

Ø Ability to perform tasks that require physical strength.

Ø Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Ø meetings within the assigned LTCH, attends all Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care staff meetings, education and/or training as required by the host employer Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care.

Ø Other duties as assigned/required.

Key Accountabilities:

Ø Performing resident physiotherapy intake tasks.

Ø Liaising between residents, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and other departments.

Ø Following treatment plans created by the Physical Therapist, and carrying out this programming in a

Ø safe and effective manner

Ø Assisting residents to walk, sit, and stand, as well as transporting them via wheelchair to locations within the facility.

Ø Observing residents performing prescribed physical exercises and immediately reporting concerns.

Ø Documenting residents’ responses to treatment and updating patient files.

Ø Performing basic prescribed treatments such as applying ice packs or heat pads as instructed.

Ø Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and therapy areas.

Ø Developing materials for use with residents, such as exercise handouts.

Ø Excellent interpersonal skills, as working within a team and with other professions is often required

Ø Observation and assessment skills

Ø Ability to communicate with a wide range of patients

Ø Genuine desire to help others.

Ø Additional tasks as assigned.
