Program Overview

Commercial Transport Mechanic provides instructional sessions on all phases of mechanical work, on all types of on-road and off-road vehicles, both diesel and gasoline, including use and interpretation of test equipment, including test results; front end alignment and wheel balancing; engine repair; transmission repair; radiator repair; auto air conditioning repair and maintenance; tire repair and maintenance; vehicle body repair and painting; tools to be used and maintenance of tools and equipment; and safety procedures to follow.

Commercial Transport Mechanic responsibilities for this position include:

• Brake Certification required
• GMP’s) and safety procedures while performing all job duties
• Perform all maintenance and repairs of trucks and trailers to include oil changes, P/M inspections, DOT inspections, brake and shoe replacement, suspension repair and replacement, air and electrical trouble shooting and repair, clutch adjustments and replacement, wire feed welding and some minor fabrication, rear end and transmission replacement, minor engine repair, heating and air conditioning repair
• Perform all required maintenance for Academy Tractors
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) to ensure that equipment will operate safely
• While performing routine maintenance checks on vehicles, follow a checklist that includes inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts
• Repair electrical systems on vehicles
• Overhaul diesel engines
• Maintain PM Logs
• Repair or adjust parts that do not work properly or remove and replace parts that cannot be repaired

Duties and Responsibilities: This position is responsible for all aspects of fleet repair and maintenance.

Requirements:

• Red Seal Commercial Transport Mechanic or equivalent experience for candidates outside of Canada
• A solid understanding and working knowledge with major truck, trailer and material handling components is required
• Valid Class 5 Drivers license required, Class 3 with air break endorsement preferred
• Proven problem solving and decision making skills
• Critical thinking, job task planning and organization skills
• Ability to read technical diagrams and instructions
• High concern for safety and a responsible work attitude
• Ownership of basic tools and steel toed boots
• Good communication skills – fluent in English
• Responsive when given direct tasks but just as efficient when working alone

Compensation:

• Full-time, permanent position
• $36.00 – 45.00 per hour for qualified LMIA applicants
• $45.00 per hour for Red Seal Journeyman

• RRSP-based retirement plan (up to 3% of wages contributed by the Employer)
