The UK Government has to date approved a list of over 40,000 companies and organisations that can provide visa sponsorship jobs in order to fight a crippling labour shortage. This database is updated regularly and for 2023, the list of approved companies has grown to close to 47,000. This means a huge opportunity for skilled and unskilled persons the world over who are seeking to find a job in the UK.

The British economy has never been the same since Brexit, which was followed by the pandemic. Both these left Britain in huge need of foreign skilled and unskilled labour to cover the huge gap in vacant posts.
Most of these visa sponsorship jobs are in health nursing and social care while some are in farming, commerce, ancillary services and even top management.
Why Visa Sponsorship Jobs in the UK
Companies in need of foreign labour often face challenges in that the targeted workers most certainly do not have the required visa to travel to and work in the UK. In that case, the companies converted volunteers to use their own financial and legal resources to secure the visa of the people they want to employ.

Each approved company is given a limited number of visas it can sponsor per calendar year. Therefore, even if a company is on the approved visa sponsorship list, that does not necessarily mean all the jobs it advertises have a visa sponsorship attached to them.
Visa sponsorship can apply to both low skills and high skills jobs. Low skills jobs include farm jobs, social care jobs, drivers and low-end artisans. Most visa sponsorship for low skills jobs are short-term, maybe three months.
This means at the end of the said three months, the visa holder must return to their home country. If they are to apply for new opportunities, they do so while in their home country.

Salaries and benefits
The British Government regulates the salaries and allowances that international employees can earn in a specified job sector. For most low-skilled jobs, the salary is in the range of £32,500/year.
Average rates of £12 per hour are common although some jobs can pay as high as £50 per hour for specialist trades such as medical practice, high-end artisans and motor mechanics.
The employer will also cover relocation costs such as flight tickets for the applicant and their spouses or family. The visa sponsor also provides accommodation for the successful applicant and where no such arrangements are available, the applicant will be given available options in advance.

What happens after you get the job?
To qualify for a visa sponsorship job, the requirements are wide depending on the employer and job type. However, all jobs require that the applicant be 18 years or older and hold valid identification documents of their home country such as a valid passport and national ID.
Some jobs specify the required minimum years of experience where such is a requisite. Where the job is an unskilled trade, generally one does not need any proof of prior employment or experience on the job.
When the employer confirms the applicant as the successful incumbent for the job, things then move with speed as documents start moving between the employer, employee and the visa processing authorities.
The applicants’ sponsor will give them their certificate of sponsorship reference number.
Also, applicants will need to add their certificate of the sponsorship reference number to their visa application form. Note that, you can only use this number once.
