Administered by the WTO’s Institute for Training and Technical Co-operation (ITTC) and supported by the Global Trust Fund, the Young Professionals Programme (YPP) serves as a unique platform for qualified young professionals from WTO member nations with limited or no professional representation within the WTO Secretariat. This initiative aims to bolster participants’ understanding of WTO mechanisms and equip them with the skills necessary to address complex international trade issues.

Objectives of the Programme

Programme Structure and Application Process

Selected young professionals will be assigned to specific divisions within the WTO Secretariat based on organizational priorities and the applicants’ areas of interest. During their one-year tenure, participants will immerse themselves in the workings of the WTO, contributing actively to its initiatives and projects.

To apply, candidates must complete the online application form available on the WTO e-Recruitment website. Alongside their application, candidates are required to submit a cover letter outlining their motivations and indicating up to three preferred areas of work within the WTO, in order of preference.

Eligibility Criteria and Requirements

Education:

Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as economics, international relations, law, or environmental studies, relevant to WTO’s work, by the time of application.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with WTO operations and international trade issues.
  • Proficiency in English, with additional fluency in French or Spanish considered advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and passion for international trade and multilateralism.

Work Experience:

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is required.

Nationality:

Preference will be given to applicants from WTO Members with limited representation in the WTO Secretariat, particularly those from developing and least developed countries.
